NC State has landed a verbal commitment from Cedar Grove (GA) defensive tackle Quentez Johnson. The three-star prospect announced his decision minutes ago on Twitter.

He had narrowed his list to NC State, Tennessee, and Oregon.

The Wolfpack was one of the first schools to offer back early in the spring but didn't become a major player until Johnson spent a couple of days on campus attending camp. He had a chance to work out with defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen and tour the facilities.

"I have a chance to play early and the players already took me under their wing," said Johnson. "Me and the defensive line coach (Ryan Nielsen) have a good relationship."

A three-star prospect, he is rated the No. 50 defensive tackle in the country by Scout.com. Johnson had a breakout performance this spring at the Atlanta Nike Camp where he was one of the top defensive performers.

"Johnson looks like a nose guard, but he can move," said Scout.com Recruiting Analyst Chad Simmons. "He played light on his feet defeating interior offensive linemen off the ball. He worked his hands well and he showed good quickness off the ball."

Johnson totaled 65 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, and three sacks during his junior season.

He picked the Wolfpack over offers from the three finalists, Miami, Louisville, USC, LSU, Mississippi State, UNC, Georgia Tech, and FSU among others.
