Most of the 24 meetings before Saturday's in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium found the Pirates with the greater sense of urgency. Losses to State were difficult to overcome and even tougher to forget, and the Pack usually went on to face a schedule of games that included North Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest and the rest of the ACC lineup.
