Pack Pride breaks down NC State's shortlist of prospects at tight end and wide receiver.
Owens Thinking About Official Visits
The 6-5, 230-pound tight end told Pack Pride back then that he had narrowed his list to NC State, South Carolina, Clemson, Arkansas and North Carolina, in no particular order.
While the Ardrey Kell prospect has not narrowed his list again he did admit that he has been thinking about setting up official visits lately. Where would he like to go?
"I know I'll definitely be taking official visits to South Carolina, Clemson, Chapel Hill (North Carolina) and I might take one to NC State. I'll probably go to NC State but I'm not sure yet," he explained.
That doesn't necessarily mean that those schools are sure make up the final list that Owens chooses his ultimate destination from. For now, though, they have to feel good about their position simply because he likes them enough to hope to take an official visit, which is always a more in-depth tour of the school and program.
"I'll probably take my officials in September or October," he continued. "Right now I'm focusing on my season. I've been working on my speed and elusiveness on the outside so I can be more of a threat on the outside as a receiver or as a tight end."
Owens said he and his teammates work harder than any other high school team in the state and they have already completed about 30 practices, which is significantly more than most of the other teams in the state. Owens has been so busy with preparation for his season that he hasn't been able to visit any schools lately.
In fact, Owens told Pack Pride this week that he did not visit any schools all summer long. Last summer, heading into his junior season, he visited Vanderbilt, South Carolina, NC State, Virginia, Georgia and Tennessee, so it's been long enough that his perception may have changed when he takes more visits in the fall.
Owens went on to say that he will be watching the teams recruiting him this fall and factoring their performance into his decision.
"That's going to be important," he said. "I need to see how they work and go about their business throughout the season. I need to know what I'm getting into."
Owens is ranked the No. 27 tight end in the nation by Scout.
