Bridge Checks in on Fleming

NC State tight ends coach Jim Bridge recently visited Independence (NC) tailback Nyjee Fleming, and Pack Pride has the latest on where the Wolfpack stands.

Earlier in the year NC State appeared to be in a great position with Charlotte Independence running back Nyjee Fleming.

While the Pack is still on Fleming's radar and he plans on continuing to evaluate NC State, he is not leaning toward spending his college years in Raleigh. Again, that does not mean that Fleming is ruling out the Wolfpack. It just means NC State has some work to do.

"Basically, I've been to South Carolina and I've visited Virginia numerous times (lately)," Fleming said late last week. "Those two are at the top of my list. I'd probably put Virginia over South Carolina because my teammate is going there so I'd already know somebody. Their academics seem to be a little bit better, too."

Fleming is referring to Adrian Gamble, a Class of 2011 cornerback from Independence that verbally committed to the Cavaliers last summer.

"I'm going to keep in mind some other schools, though," he added. "Clemson, NC State and East Carolina ... as far as schools that have offered, those are some of the schools I'm going to keep in mind.

"I've been getting interest from NC State, Duke, Georgia, the University of Miami, South Florida, Arkansas, Illinois and Notre Dame. I wouldn't be surprised if Oregon offers me soon. There are a lot of colleges showing interest."

While the Pack may be just behind the Cavaliers and Gamecocks, the coaching staff isn't giving up just yet.

"Coach Bridge came up to my school a couple of days ago and me and him spoke briefly for the first time since their junior day," Fleming said. "It is always nice talking to him. NC State could be a place I could go to. They're still in the running but I wouldn't say they're at the very top."

Fleming said unless he feels compelled to commit to a school in the near future -- something he does not foresee happening -- he will probably wait and take some official visits before shutting the recruiting process down.

He has mentioned in the past that Miami is a school he followed very closely coming up, and when you talk to Fleming you get the impression that he would still be very interested if the Hurricanes were to offer. He is hoping to visit the school sometime later in the process.
