Pack Offers Oakman

When you see the size of Penn Wood High School defensive end Shawn Oakman and then watch him run around on a basketball court, it's hard not to think of Julius Peppers and right now Oakman already has an offer from a Carolina school and is on the hunt for more.

Penn Wood High School left defensive end Shawn Oakman stands in at an intimidating 6-foot-9, 245 pounds with his shoes off and ripped apart the Del-Val League to the tune of 17 sacks as a junior. Scout.com talked about what schools are contacting him and the offer he's holding.

"I've heard from Penn State, West Virginia, Ohio State, Michigan, Boston College, UCLA, Villanova, Temple, Purdue, Army, Pittsburgh and Rutgers so far," Oakman said. "All of those schools have already visited me at Penn Wood and I camped last summer at Temple."

"North Carolina State offered me about a month ago, but that's all I've got right now," Oakman stated. "I don't know much about them other then what I've been told which is that they're re-building their program. I am going to visit there, but I have to figure out when I'll be able to make it with my coach and uncle."

Oakman never thought he'd play any sports growing up, so he never really followed them until he moved in with his Uncle Kenneth at the age of 11, the age he started playing basketball and football.

"I never had the opportunity to get into sports where I was living before, so I moved in with my Uncle he got me into playing some sports out in Delaware County. Originally basketball was the sport that I really excelled at and then in seventh grade I started playing football and I just loved hitting people. Ever since I got to hit people I knew football was what I wanted to play."

"I have to see Penn State this summer," Oakman explained. "I want to see Ohio State, Michigan, Pittsburgh and Rutgers too."

As a junior, Oakman had 10 catches for 163 yards and four touchdowns. On defense, he had 130 tackles, 17 sacks and four forced fumbles.
