Eastern Alamance Star Hoping for Pack Offer

Eastern Alamance Star Hoping for Pack Offer

Lamar Ivey doesn't hide the fact he's hoping for an offer from NC State. Pack Pride catches up with him after a recent unofficial visit to NC State.

Though he already holds a couple of nice offers, Lamar Ivey is hoping one school close to home jumps into the mix.

During the regular season and a 10-1 start heading into the playoffs, the 6-0, 176-pound quarterback/athlete from Mebane (NC) Eastern Alamance had passed for 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 936 yards and another 16 scores. As a receiver he has caught seven passes for 90 yards and a touchdown, demonstrating his ability to help out a team in a variety of ways.

In the first round of the playoffs this past Friday, Ivey completed 3 of 8 passes for 57 yards while rushing nine times for 72 yards and two touchdowns in a 45-7 romp over McMichael High School.

Despite all of his offensive production during the 2009 season, Ivey is being recruited primarily as a cornerback by most schools.

"I've been hearing from NC State, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and VMI," he recently told Pack Pride. "I haven't got an offer from State yet, but they've been talking about offering me. Coach Swepson is who I've been hearing from. They said they're about 100-percent sure they're gonna offer me. They're waiting on something like my transcripts to get accepted, and then they're gonna offer."

What does Ivey think about the Pack, in spite of the fact that he doesn't hold an offer?

"I like them a lot," he said. "I liked the whole atmosphere and the crowd when I went to watch them play Maryland. I like the coaches a lot. It was just a good trip.

"I'd say my favorites are State and Kentucky. I like the coaches at Kentucky. They seem pretty nice. I'm taking an official visit out there December 5. They've offered, but I haven't been out there."

Ivey has also received offers from East Carolina, West Virginia and VMI. He said he wants to set up an official visit to NC State, but he doesn't know when it would be yet.
