he Guaranty Bank SMU Athletic Forum announced today candidates for the 2009 Doak Walker Award and Wolfpack halfback Jamelle Eugene is on the list of 45. The award is presented annually to the nation’s top college running back.
Eugene ranks ninth among active ACC players with 1,168 career rushing yards and has been referred to by O’Brien as “the energizer bunny” during his career. He has tallied 1,998 all-purpose yards during his two year career.
The award, in its 20th year, is named for SMU’s three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. It is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.
