Name: Robby Havenstein
Hometown: Frederick, Maryland
High School: Linganore High School
Position: Offensive Lineman
NOTES: Robby Havenstein is regarded as one of the top offensive linemen on the east coast. With offers on the table from programs such as Penn State, Maryland, Virginia, NC State, Wisconsin, and Wake Forest among others, he certainly has options.
Checking in at 6-foot-7 and 340 pounds, Havenstein is rated a four-star prospect and the No. 29 offensive tackle in the country by Scout.com. He was named first-team All-Conference, All-Area, All-Met and All State as a junior and carries a 3.85 GPA in the classroom.
"Obviously I'm a big guy and colleges like that, but I think I have pretty good feet for a big fella," said Havenstein. "I've played basketball all my life and I think that helps with my footwork. I still need to work on getting faster, but I think they like my athleticism.
"I also need to work on my explosiveness out of my stance, quickness getting to blocks, and finishing blocks."
Havenstein recently visited NC State and the trip left a positive impression.
"It was just an unofficial visit down there to check things out. I was real, real surprised with NC State. It was kind of a program that I had questions about. I know the whole staff went down there from BC. I knew they had done a terrific job there. It was great to see the facilities and all the staff seemed real nice.
"Coach Willis is my recruiting coordinator and I like him a lot. He came down to my school once or twice before. He just seems like a down to earth guy. He's not trying to sell me anything. He's a straight shooter, and I appreciate that."
Havenstein is expected to make a decision this summer.
COACH QUOTE: "Robby is the most complete linemen I've coached in my 23 year career. He has it all... size, power, agility, leadership and intelligence. For a young man in only his third season of football, Rob made all of the blocks. Now as a junior he has become one of the top linemen in Maryland and on the east coast.
"He's great on pass protection, a wall when down blocking, gets to the next level at linebacker, and pulls with authority. You name it, Rob can do it. Simply put, Robby is a coach's dream. We ran for 4000 yards 56 rushing TD's and most of it behind #70." -- Linganore Head Coach Rick Conner
