Cann Impressed With NC State

A.J. Cann

Bamberg (SC) Ehrhardt defensive tackle A.J. Cann is a major target for NC State and Pack Pride has the latest on his recruitment in this Q&A.

Bamberg (SC) Ehrhardt High defensive tackle A.J. Cann is one of the top prospects in South Carolina and has become a major target for the NC State coaching staff.

At 6-3, 265 pounds, Cann logged nearly 100 tackles, 15 sacks and two forced fumbles as a junior. While on offense, he didn’t give up a sack the entire year.

Rated a three-star prospect and the No. 19 defensive tackle in the nation by Scout.com, Cann has picked up a plethora of scholarship offers and is just now beginning to whittle that list down.

After a recent visit to NC State for the Pack’s spring game, the Wolfpack appears to be in the thick of the race. Pack Pride talked with Cann and has the latest in this Q&A.

AJ, can you talk about your trip up to NC State for the spring game?

It was nice and all. I saw the campus and got to tour everything. I have a good relationship with the coaches and enjoyed the whole spring game. I got there on Saturday morning and checked everything out, the weight room and all that.

How is your relationship with your recruiting coach, Jim Bridge?

I have a good relationship with coach Bridge. He calls the coaches every now and then and we’ll talk to each other. They’re recruiting me for the defensive line and their defensive line coach, coach Willis, I’ve got a good relationship with him and he seems to like me a lot. Everything’s going good with him.

Some people believe that the in-state schools may hold the upper hand in your recruiting. Would you say you’re leaning that way?

Really, being an in-state school doesn’t matter. If you’re showing me love and are recruiting me and showing me what I like about your school and if I like it, you’ve got a pretty good chance.

Have you set up a time line yet for when you’d like to get your recruiting over with?

It might be sooner than what everyone else thinks. I don’t know an exact time frame but if everything keeps going like it is then it might be soon.

Have you had a chance to narrow down your list at all?

Well, I’ve got a couple that I like. That would be North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, NC State, Virginia Tech, Tennessee and Clemson.

AJ, what will be some of the important factors when it comes time to make your decision?

It doesn’t really matter as far as close to home because I just want a place I can fit in and have a chance to play and also has a good academic program. Also, my relationship with the coaches, the campus and facilities are important, too.

Have any schools stood out so far as to who seems to be doing the best job of recruiting you up to this point?

NC State, North Carolina and South Carolina. NC State, they’ve been showing me much love.
