Recruiting Scene: Minnesota was one of the first schools to take a serious interest in Bishop but over the course of the ensuing months he also picked up offers from West Virginia, Pittsburgh and some smaller programs. He immediately took to coach O'Brien's style and believed he would be a good fit in the Pack's defensive schemes.
Bishop initially planned on announcing his decision sometime in January but after visiting the Wolfpack he felt like he was ready and committed. He was impressed with the Pack's win over Miami but did wait to visit West Virginia.
Why NCSU? "I've committed to NC State. I feel really comfortable with the program and the coaching staff. It's a place I can see myself playing at for the next four or five years.
"The visit was awesome. I had a real good time. I have grandparents in North Carolina so we spent Thanksgiving with them and then came over to State on Friday.
"It was my first chance to see State but I liked everything about it. I liked the team. I liked the coaches. I liked the school and I think the program is going in a real positive direction under coach O'Brien. I just liked the visit a lot."
ESPN Evaluation: Brandan Bishop is a very reliable defensive back. He has good size and is quicker than fast. He is an active and instinctive safety that reacts instantly to the run or pass. Displays a quick break on the football and takes good angles to make the interception or knock down the pass.
Demonstrates the talents to be an outstanding centerfielder in three deep zone defense. Possesses soft hands but needs to learn how to high point the football; often times waits for it to come down. Takes proper run support angles to the football and maintains leverage on the ball carrier while making physical tackles. Makes solid chest up tackles in the open field and rarely gets out of position. Shows versatility on special teams as a punt and field goal blocker.
Bishop is a smart and solid defensive back that shows ability and field smarts.
