NC State quarterback Russell Wilson has been named to the 2008 CollegeFootballNews.com All-Freshman Team. Wilson was a first-team selection, as he was picked over Ohio State's Terrell Pryor, Baylor's Robert Griffin, and Boise State's Kellen Moore among others.

Wilson led the ACC in points responsible for (12.40 per game), passing efficiency (134.3), total offense (211.10), and touchdown passes (16). He has thrown only one interception all season, fewest among all FBS quarterbacks ranked in the NCAA passing categories and set a school record by attempting 226 consecutive passes without an interception, an active-streak that leads the country. He was also named ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Also, NC State linebacker Nate Irving was a second-team Sophomore All-American selection. Despite missing three games and major snaps in two others due to an ankle injury, Irving still managed to total 73 tackles, nine tackles for a loss, four interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a sack. Irving was an honorable mention All-ACC selection.

***** QB Russell Wilson, NC State – Others put up gaudier numbers, and there's no arguing against Baylor's Robert Griffin or Ohio State's Terrelle Pryor, but no freshman quarterback meant more to his team than Russell did to the Pack. Without him, NC State doesn't go bowling. Baylor didn't go to a bowl, and Ohio State probably would've been 9-3 at worst with Todd Boeckman under center. A model of uncommon consistency for such a young player, Wilson became the first rookie in league history to be named to the All-ACC first team. He finished the regular season with 20 total touchdowns and one interception, led State to four wins in-a-row down the stretch, and has thrown a school-record 226 straight passes without a pick. He is the future in Raleigh.
