WRAL.com has a special video feature with NC State redshirt junior defensive tackle Alan-Michael Cash following Wednesday's practice.
Do you feel like you'll be able to put together four quarters of solid defense against William & Mary?
Yes, I feel so. Everybody knows we have to do that because we didn't against South Carolina. We've got to pull through.
What have you seen from them on film?
#11 is real good. He likes to take off a lot. If nothing is open he's going to run. We've got to make sure we stay in our rush lanes and contain him.
What did it do to the team when Russell Wilson went down?
It hurt. Everybody was pretty sad on the sidelines when it happened, and we pulled together to try and make something happen for him.
Have you seen him back around at practice?
I see him in the training room sometimes. He's just joking and laughing like nothing even happened. You can't really tell.
What was your reaction when he was down?
I was just in awe... mouth dropped. I was hoping he'd get up real soon.
How did you stay in the game?
We just said a prayer for him and everybody said we've got to do this for Russell.
Is he a source of inspiration?
A big source.
What was it like on the way back after the game?
Everybody was pretty quiet on the bus. They were probably thinking about what they could have done better to make sure that didn't happen. Everybody on the defense's bus was pretty quiet... just went to sleep.
Did anything surprise you about the game?
Nothing startled me. I was pretty surprised with how many interceptions we had because in last year's game against Central Florida we couldn't get anything going. The defense did real good those first three quarters.
How do you make a full game out of those three quarters?
You've got to play all four quarters and we didn't do that. We feel bad about that... we've got to finish out.
Was it a conditioning factor or mental?
I think it was both. It was a little hot down there... people were on the sidelines cramping up. The mental aspect, they saw the offense didn't score and was out there for so long, guys started hanging their heads.
Could this be a trenches game with the weather?
Our front four is ready for anything. It doesn't matter to us.
How anxious are you to get back on the field?
We're getting everybody hydrated and those people in the training room that need to be in there. We're getting in some film study to get a jump on the next team.
With all the injuries, is it frustrating?
It gets a little frustrating but people are going to be injured. You've got to fight through it... you can't worry about that. You've got to go out there and stay positive.
Last year the defense didn't start so well against Central Florida. What was the difference?
We just came out with more energy. We were pumped up. We were playing the SEC and we felt like we had something to prove.
