Notes: After camping at NC State in June, Tunnel Hill (GA) Northwest Whitfield County defensive back Dean Haynes knew where he wanted to attend college. Today, Haynes made his decision official after committing to the Wolfpack.

"I committed to coach O'Brien today," said Haynes on Wednesday. "Just hanging out with coach Reed at camp and all the coaches... they made me feel comfortable. The facilities were great there and I liked the whole place. I just fell in love with it."

At the recent Scout/UnderArmour combine held in Atlanta, Haynes measured at 5-11, 178 pounds and had the fourth best 40-yard dash with a time of 4.4-seconds en route to being named to the all-combine team. He also recorded a 4.25-second pro shuttle and solid vertical jump of 35-inches.

At Northwest Whitfield, Haynes has become the go-to guy all over the field. He lines up at quarterback while also playing full time at cornerback. Haynes is even used on kick returns.

As a junior, he accounted for 440 yards on 45 carries while primarily running the option from his quarterback spot. At corner, he logged 45 tackles and five interceptions- returning one of those for a score.

"A home run threat anytime he touches the ball, Haynes has scary speed," stated Scout.com Recruiting Analyst Burke Hayes. "He is also very strong and will not come down by an arm tackle alone. On defense, he is as physical a defensive back as I have seen. He could play corner but could easily move to safety due to his tackling ability.

"He needs to continue flexibility program and harness his energy. A character guy in the truest sense, Haynes is a natural leader."

With a solid junior campaign and impressive spring combine tour under his belt, Haynes landed early offers from Navy, East Carolina, Appalachian State (recruited as a quarterback), Western Carolina and Army before the Wolfpack jumped into the mix with an offer this week.

Rated a three-star prospect and the No. 56 cornerback in the country by Scout.com, Haynes also carries a 3.8 GPA in the classroom.
