Jones Sets Record, Advances in 50m Free

After earning a spot on U.S.A.'s 100-meter freestyle relay team, former NC State swimmer Cullen Jones is attempting to earn an individual spot in the 50-meter freestyle.

After earning a spot on U.S.A.'s 100-meter freestyle relay team, former NC State swimmer Cullen Jones is attempting to earn an individual spot in the 50-meter freestyle.

Jones advanced to the finals of the 50-meter freestyle following a second-best 21.71 in the semifinals. Earlier in the day, he set an American record with a 21.59 in the preliminaries. The 50-meter freestyle is considered his best event.

The finals will be held Saturday at 6:45 a.m., with the top two swimmers advancing to represent U.S.A. in the 2008 Olympics.
