Ford Has High Expectations for Wolfpack

Elton Ford

Pack Pride catches up with safety Elton Ford after his official visit to NC State.

Chattahoochee (Ga) safety Elton Ford committed to NC State back in November, even before making his official visit to see the Wolfpack in person. This past weekend, he made the trip to Raleigh and the visit solidified Ford's decision to run with the Pack.

"My visit was real good," he said. "I got to see around campus and all the advantages of going to NC State. I liked the residential area where the players stay. That was real nice.

"I had a chance to spend a lot of time with the coaches and they are laid back. Like I said before, I really got good vibes from the DB coach (Mike Reed) and everyone was just laid back like I am. It really got me excited about coming up there in the fall."

Ford was hosted by fellow defensive back Justin Byers on his visit and one of the highlights was being able to spend time with head coach Tom O'Brien.

"I really like him as a coach," said Ford. "He tells it like it is and he knows what he's talking about because you can see the success he had while he was up at Boston College. He has goals of winning a national championship at State and I want to be a part of that."

While he'll begin his career at NC State as a safety, Ford spent this past season as a do-it-all athlete for his Chattahoochee squad. He finished off the year with 593 yards rushing and five touchdowns en route to an 8-3 record. On defense, Ford tallied 107 tackles and four interceptions en route to being named county player of the year.

With his high school career now behind him, Ford has already started thinking about what the future may hold once he arrives in Raleigh next year. In his opinion, the sky is the limit for the future of Wolfpack football.

"I know we're going to turn this thing around," he said. "I think we'll be in the BCS by my sophomore year and in the top 10."

Ford selected the Pack over offers from Western Michigan and Middle Tennessee State and interest from Louisville, UNC, Central Florida and Michigan State.
