Jackson: 'State was the best place for me'
Behind the stellar rushing of Colby Jackson, Trinity Christian Academy boasts a 9-1 record headed into the second round of the playoffs this week. Jackson has totaled 2,356 yards rushing and 38 touchdowns this year while leading the team with 82 tackles from his linebacker position. The 6-2, 225 pounder has emerged as one of the Peach State’s top rushers and NC State was the first major division one team to take notice. Jackson rewarded that early attention with a verbal commitment to Wolfpack linebacker’s coach Andy McCollum on Sunday evening. “He was real excited,” said Jackson. “He told me I was a part of the Wolfpack family and I guess I am now. He told all the players and they were real excited. It’s just really the place for me.” Jackson added that he reached a point where he wanted to secure his place in college so that he could enjoy the rest of his senior year in high school. “I really liked them,” said Jackson. “I didn’t want it to go to waste. I thought it was the best thing for me to get it out of the way so I can finish out my senior year and know where my future home is going to be.” The Pack is in the midst of a four-game winning streak and Jackson said he’s noticed how well the Wolfpack has been playing as of late. He attributes that to the man at the helm of the NC State program. “They’ve really turned it around this year,” he said. “Me and my parents were talking about it and he’s a great man of character and that’s going to come through with his football team.” Jackson recently received an offer from Miami and Georgia Southern. The senior running back said the offer from the Hurricanes impressed him but he knew where his future was. “The Miami offer was nice and I considered them but me and my parents talked about it and we knew that State was the best place for me.” Jackson projects as a full academic qualifier and plans to officially visit NC State sometime in January.
