"The Turning Point... The first snap. Central Florida tailback Kevin Smith took a handoff, turned the corner and raced 80 yards up the sideline, putting N.C. State in a 7-0 hole just 20 seconds into the season. The Wolfpack was obviously staggered and didn’t fully get its bearings until after halftime." - Fayetteville Observer's Dan Wiederer

Certainly we are," said State coach Tom O'Brien. "But I'm certainly not discouraged." The disappointment stems mostly from the first half, when O'Brien could have been forgiven for wondering if he should have stayed at Boston College and State fans might have wondered if they should have stayed with Chuck Amato. The Tom O'Brien Era began in a familiar way, but with an unfamiliar message afterward. Mistakes, both mental and technical, proved to be the factor as N.C. State lost its season opener 25-23 to Central Florida. These type of miscues were the undoing of former coach Chuck Amato, but he never admitted blame. O'Brien, however, seemed to have no problem in placing the focus. "It's all on me," O'Brien said. "I should have coached better." The Wolfpack had a reasonable chance to win this one, driving in Central Florida territory as the final seconds ticked away. Read More
