Notables
NC State leads the all-time series, 90-47-1.
Last season, the Wolfpack swept the Terrapins in College Park, as they marked 11-4, 15-4, and 7-4 victories at Shipley Field from April 14-16.
Maryland’s last victory came two seasons ago, when the Terps bested the Wolfpack, 15-6, in the series opener at Doak Field on March 11, 2005.
The Wolfpack has dropped three of its last five contest, losing to UNC-Greensboro on Tuesday afternoon before rebounding to beat North Carolina A&T on Wednesday. The Pack is still undefeated (8-0) at home.
In its last five games, dating back to the Keith LeClair Classic, NC State is hitting .214
(34-for-159) and has scored just 26 runs.
Ramon Corona is batting just .167 on the season but leads the team in runs scored thanks to a .375 on-base percentage. The junior middle infielder has 16 walks, tied with double-play partner Vince Gutierrez for the team lead.
Just two Wolfpack players have started all 15 games, Ryan Pond and Corona. The Pack has had 13 different players start at least four games.
Senior shortstop Dan Melvin led last years Terrapin team in batting average, hits, home runs, runs and RBIs. So far this season Melvin is batting .224 with one home run and seven RBIs.
One more Maryland victory would give the program its highest win total since 1972, when the Terps went 10-5. Maryland hasn't had a winning season since 1981, when they were 7-3.
Cincinnati Reds pitcher Eric Milton played at Maryland.
