Pack Cracks Top Five for Virginia LB
With scholarship offers from NC State, Boston College, Syracuse, Duke, Temple, East Carolina and Ball State as well as heavy recruiting interest from Michigan, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Louisville and Clemson, three-star LB/DE Jamar Jackson has become one of Virginia's most sought-after defenders. At 6-4, 225 pounds and boasting 4.65-second speed in the 40-yard dash, Jackson was major playmaker on defense last season for Varina High School in Richmond, Va. On the year he collected 55 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks and an interception return for a score while splitting time between outside linebacker and defensive end. For his efforts he was named all-region, all-metro and all-district. Although his size might indicate a future defensive end, several schools, including NC State, like the rising senior as a linebacker. In fact, that's the position he hopes to suit up at in 2007. "Some schools have been talking to me about defensive end but others say they like my speed at linebacker," said Jackson. "I prefer linebacker because that's what I'm more used to playing." With interest building by the day, Jackson has been able to put together a tentative top five as he prepares for his senior season. "My top five right now is NC State, Boston College, Syracuse, Duke and Temple," he said. "I'm looking at some other schools, too, and Michigan, Tennessee and Virginia Tech all seem like they are close to offering." Jackson talked a little about the Wolfpack and why they made the cut on his early list of favorites. "I went down for a visit, and I liked the fact that everything down there looks brand new," he said. "I didn't see anything old. It just looked real good and I liked that. "I hung out with coach Dunlap while I was there and that was good. He really likes to joke and he has a nice attitude about everything and is real laid back." Jackson stated that location won't be a major factor in his decision as long as it's not too far from home but he is looking for a school where he can play early in his career. He plans to make his decision sometime during his senior season.
