Gregory Ready To Arrive In Raleigh

Gary Gregory turned out to be quite a rarity in the class of 2006 as he was the lone offensive lineman to ink with NC State. He's been hard at work preparing for his arrival in Raleigh, and he talks with Pack Pride about his upcoming move.

Offensive lineman Gary Gregory committed to NC State in late January, and he has a chance to impact down the road for the Wolfpack.

The 6-5, 295-pound lineman from Apopka, Florida had a great reputation in high school, earning Class 6A all-state honors as a senior. However he knows his press clippings will not get him on the field at NC State.

"I'm just working really hard right now, staying in shape and working to improve my basic skills," said Gregory. "I can't wait to get up to school and start doing it with my future teammates. Obviously I want to get stronger and faster. The biggest thing right now is getting as strong as I possibly can.

"That's going to come with time if I work hard, but I really want to go into the fall in the best shape I've been in. Adjusting to a new level of football is going to be hard enough as it is. It will be a lot easier if I can match up with some of the older guys physically."

Apopka coach Ty Ensor has spoken often of Gregory's work ethic. Gregory did not begin to play football until he was in 10th grade, so judging by his progress and success it seems as though his ceiling for improvement is high.

Gregory is good friends with fellow Class of 2006 commit Jarvis Williams, and the two have been in contact.

"I've talked to Jarvis recently," said Gregory of his future teammate from Jones High School in Orlando, FL. "We've talked about how this next season is going to go. Both of us are real excited. We both agree that we're going to go to a bowl game, but we want to do a lot more than that."

Gregory arrives in Raleigh in early July, as he will participate in summer workouts and the second summer session.

Gregory Quote: "[NC State] told me they want me at guard. I know I've got to get stronger and faster so I won't mind redshirting. I don't need to start right away, but I'm looking forward to playing down the road." -- Gary Gregory

Coach Quote: "Gary is a very intelligent kid. He's got a 3.4 GPA scored a 1000 on the SAT, so he's qualified. He's also a very intelligent football player.

"Gary's a hard worker and stays after practice trying to get better on the things he needs to improve on. He's made himself into a great football player through hard work and dedication." -- Apopka head coach Ty Ensor
