McCauley, Holmes Impressing in Playoffs

McCauley Nears Scoring Record

NC State signee Ben McCauley and '06 commitment Aaron Holmes are both starring as their teams advance in their respective playoffs.

NC State signee Ben McCauley is just 36 points shy of Drew Schifino's 2000 WPIAL playoff scoring record.

McCauley is averaging 37.3 points per game in three playoff games, and he will have his chance to break the record tonight against Moon High School, the defending champions.

McCauley, a 6'9 power forward from Yough (Pa.) High School, is averaging 29.7 points this season. He signed with NC State last fall over offers from Xavier, Cincinnati, Virginia, and UCLA among others.

NC State commitment Aaron Holmes scored 42 points in St. Petersburg (Fl.) Catholic's 92-62 win over Mulberry High School. The victory sends Catholic to the second round of the Class AAA regional playoffs.

Holmes committed to NC State last fall.

The Wolfpack commitment led three players in double figures, as Ole Miss football signee Billy Tapp and senior Joey Baker added 15 and 13 respectively.

Mullberry played tough in the first half, leading 20-19 at the end of the first quarter. However, Holmes and the Barons would take the lead for good on his 3-pointer seconds into the second period and never looked back.

Holmes, a 6'5 junior shooting guard, finished the first half with 19 points and added 23 in the second half before heading to the bench in the game's final minutes.

After the 92-62 victory, Catholic's record improved to 23-5 on the season and they advance into the regional semifinals next Tuesday night when they play at Fort Myers (FL) Bishop Verot for a spot in the regional finals.
