'I'm Still Going to NC State'

'I'm Still Going to NC State'

Riviera Beach (Fla.) star Willie Young never decommitted from NC State, but he was certainly going to evaluate his options after recruiting coach Doc Holliday left for Florida.

The three-star defensive end then had a talk with NC State coach Chuck Amato and defensive line coach Todd Stroud, who talked with Young about the coaching situation.

"It was no big deal, and I'm still going to NC State," Willie Young said. "I've already talked to coach Amato and coach Stroud, and they let me know about everything that's going on. I'll be up at State on the 7th of January.

"Coach Amato just asked me what the deal was, and I explained the situation. He let me know everything was going to be okay and that I don't have to worry about anything. Pretty much he just said if I had any questions before coming up that all I need to do is call him or coach Stroud."

Young was quick to put out that he never officially decommitted. He just wanted to look out for himself in case something else was to happen.

"Well, I was just trying to look out for myself at first and just make sure I was covering my tail on the situation," Young said. "I never decommitted or anything like that. I just wanted to make sure I knew what all was going on."

Ironically, Young said he's not talked with coach Holliday since his coaching move, although he hopes to do so soon.

"Coach Holliday was my recruiting coach, and I still want to find out how he's doing because I haven't talked to him in a while," Young said. "But, he wasn't going to coach me on the next level because he was the receivers coach.

"Coach Stroud was my position coach and if he would have left then we would have had some problems. That's what it came down to. Since coach Stroud and coach Amato are staying then I don't have anything to worry about."

Young last spoke with the Wolfpack coaches on Christmas Eve. It mainly focused on his January arrival and how he hopes to add playing weight before next fall.

"We talked about me coming up in January and what his plan's going to be so I can gain some weight. I'm around 215 right now, but I want to get to around 225 or 230 by next season. I don't know how I'm going to do it, but I'm going to work hard with coach Stroud to get there."
