N.C. State coach Herb Sendek did some of his best recruiting after signing 6-10 PF Andrew Brackman, who also is a major league pitching prospect.

    Sendek first sold Brackman on signing with the Wolfpack, then on playing both basketball and baseball at N.C. State instead of pro baseball in the summers and college hoops during the school year. There's nothing like basketball in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and Lord knows O'Donnell loves basketball. But he was too far from home, practices were more difficult than games, the Wolfpack preferred a more deliberate game than a fast-paced one and, well, if O'Donnell was going to play basketball, he wanted to play a lot.
