Though he's used as a versatile offensive weapon, Ray Ray McCloud III is primarily a running back…
McCloud Camps At NC State
Tampa (FL) Sickles running back Ray Ray McCloud may be a three-star recruit according to Scout.com but the number of big-time teams that have served up early scholarship offers really tells the tale of just how good he really is. At 5-9, 175 pounds McCloud rushed for 2,316 yards and 26 touchdowns on 293 carries while adding nine catches for 192 yards and an additional score. While he projects at running back, McCloud worked out at receiver while attending NC State's camp last Friday and he put on a show. He has incredibly quick feet and was virtually unguardable during one on ones showing that he could be just as effective in the slot out in space. McCloud was just one of a group of better than 30 prospects from the Tampa FL area that had embarked on a six camp tour spanning nine days. Admittedly exhausted, McCloud said he still enjoyed the experience. "Even before these camps we were at the Baltimore camp and that was long," he said. "It was hot. It's been pretty hot but I just try to go hard at every camp. I'm wore out but it's fun. I'm ready to get back home but this was a great time. This is my third time on the bus tour and it's always fun." NC State has offered and it was definitely to their advantage to get McCloud on campus if only for a day. However, the list of heavy hitters is long and landing him will take a lot of work. McCloud talked about his brief visit in Raleigh. "NC State's facilities are off the charts. I didn't really get to talk to much to the coaches because I came a little late. They all had to get everything set up so I didn't get to talk to the coaches too much but I'm going to hang out with coach Doeren and coach Kitchings a little later. Coach Kitchings has been the guy recruiting me." McCloud says he hasn't formulated a favorite's list but did talk about some of the top offers he's landed thus far. "After all this and my UCLA trip then I'm going to narrow everything down but I really haven't thought about my favorite schools yet. Some of my top offers are Michigan, Florida State, Florida, UCLA, Oregon, USC, UNC, Clemson, NC State- I could keep going." After returning home, McCloud said his next trip would be to a 7 on 7 camp at Alabama. He is rated the No. 45 running back in the nation by Scout.com.
