The seventh-ranked Wolfpack baseball team will play host to an NCAA Super Regional for the first time ever this weekend, taking on Rice at Doak Field beginning Friday at 4 p.m.
Friday’s and Saturday’s games will be televised nationally on ESPN2, while Sunday's game, if necessary, will be carried on ESPNU. All available ticket inventory for State’s Super Regional was sold out by noon on Tuesday, fewer than 12 hours after the official notification that the games would be played in Raleigh.
If Rice returns any of its ticket allotment prior to Friday’s game, fans will be notified via social media and GoPack.com.
NC State is one of just five schools nationally to have its football team play in a postseason bowl, its men’s basketball team advance to the NCAA Tournament and its baseball team advance to the Super Regionals. The other four schools that have accomplished that feat – Kansas State, Louisville, Oklahoma and UCLA – are playing their Super Regional on the road.
The Wolfpack men’s and women’s outdoor track and field squads begin competition today at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, while men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis and softball also advanced to NCAA play in 2013.
