Cats land Badet

Kentucky added another important piece to its 2013 football recruiting class Friday night when Orlando (Fla.) Freedom High School wide receiver Jeff Badet announced on a local radio station that he would play for the Wildcats.

"When I went on my visit, the bond that I had with the players (was a big factor)," Badet told 810CBS in Orlando. "Before I came, the quarterback at Kentucky, Maxwell Smith, told the coaches that he wanted to be my host. He's the guy who wanted to persuade me to come to the school. So when I went up there, that was the guy I was around the whole time, and you know, a receiver has to have a special bond with the guy throwing you the ball. When I went up there, we created that bond."

The three-star prospect picked UK over Iowa State, UCLA and Wake Forest. He also held offers from programs like South Florida, Boston College, Louisville, Marshall and Minnesota.

"I feel like the coaches they have now are going to turn the program around," Badet said. "And another thing is I think I can make a big impact as soon as I step on campus. They only five receivers on scholarship, so that gives me a special opportunity right away. Plus, it's SEC football, the best conference in college football and a chance to compete against the best."

As a senior, Badet (6-0, 170, 4.5) caught 64 passes for 904 yards and 17 touchdowns.

SCOUT PLAYER EVALUATION: Badet has good speed but is quicker than fast. He’s elusive and displays good change of direction. Badet can sneak behind a secondary, will go over the middle and catch a short pass and make something happen. He really does a nice job of creating separation and getting open. Badet has good hands and concentration. He can go up and get the ball and can make the acrobatic grab. Look for him to play in the slot at the next level.
