RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State head coach Tom O'Brien spoke with the media following the Pack's win over South Alabama.

"All in all, satisfied with the victory. I like the way we started the game, I like the way we played for three quarters. I wasn't really excited about the fourth quarter, but we tried to get some guys in the game that hand't been in get them some playing time. We gave up a score and a big play and stuff we can't do. It's a victory, so we'll move on and get ready to play Citadel."

"Mike was able to throw the ball. We did a better job of protecting him, we did a better job of running routes and people were where they were supposed to be. We had better timing, which is something we worked on all week. He got off to a good start. We thought we had a chance to get the ball over their head like we did the one time to Underwood, so that was a big play in the game to get up 14."

"Bryan Underwood is almost back to full speed now, so that's good for us. Getting healthy."

"We were confident after winning last week, that was a tough game. But it's good to come home and play a football game at home. I went to a pep rally Thursday night and they told me they had the career asking number of tickets by students in the history of NC State. There was a lot of enthusiasm, when we left here at 1 p.m. after our walk through…I've never seen traffic like it was, people trying to get in the parking lot. It was great that we've got this enthusiasm, it was great to come home and it was great to win a football game."

"Certainly, the good thing was when we got a turnover we made something happen for the most part. That's what you have to be able to do. The first half was good, we went out to win the third quarter, we won the third quarter 3-0 for whatever it's worth. As I told them in the locker room, for having as much as experience as we do, we're still an immature team and do some things we should be able to get control of the game. Give South Alabama credit, they kept playing hard."

"Rashard Smith did a great job returning kicks tonight. His decision making getting better, he had the opportunity against man-to-man coverage, he ran away from the guy and that was as good a throw as the Underwood throw to Rashard Smith."

"This is the first time AJ Ferguson has worked his way back into the lineup, so he can help us a lot in there because he has experience. I didn't know he had two sacks, but that's good for him and it's something we can build on."

"I didn't say I was going to turn [the running back position] over to [Mustafa Greene], I said I was going to turn it over to whoever was going to stand up and take the job. He forfeited his right to stand up and take the job, so we'll go with the other two guys. I don't have any comment on his status going forward. He's still on the team."
