Former NC State swimmer Cullen Jones will represent the United States in the 2012 Olympics after winning the 50-meter freestyle and finishing second in the 100-meter freestyle finals at the Olympic trials.
Jones won the 50-meter freestyle finals by posting a time of 21.59, the fastest time in 2012. He defeated Anthony Every by .01 seconds.
Jones is considered one of the world's best in the 50-meter freestyle, and it is his top event. He holds the American record in the event with a time of 21.40 that he posted in 2009 in Rome, Italy.
Jones posted a time of 48.35 to place second in the 100-meter freestyle finals. As one of the top six swimmers, he earned a spot in the selection pool for the team's 4x100 relay team.
Jones swam a leg on the world-record breaking 4x100 meter freestyle relay USA set at the 2008 Olympics.
