Pack To Graduate 86 on Saturday

Posted May 11, 2012

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Eighty-six student-athletes representing 20 sports will receive their NC State degrees during Saturday’s spring graduation ceremonies. That number is the highest ever for single ceremony.

It’s fitting that on a day when Wolfpack Athletics is setting a record for its number of graduates, the commencement address will be given by a former student-athlete.

Football player Philip Rivers, who was the 2003 ACC Player of the Year and still holds the conference record for passing yards, has made the cross country trek from San Diego, where he has been a four-time Pro Bowler for the Chargers.

The Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes will celebrate the accomplishments of these graduates at a special breakfast tomorrow morning at Carter-Finley Stadium.

NC State student-athletes have had a remarkable year in the classroom, with a record nine academic All-Americans thus far. As of today, 53 student-athletes have been named to academic all-conference teams, another school record.
