Mark Gottfried Interview
"When you do what we did, you're excited."
"In the big picture, our guys came a long way and they did a lot. That's exciting."
"We talked a lot about confidence... in the big picture. there is some confidence with our team."
"Our goal is to play with anybody in the country."
"I watched a lot of it. I"m very proud of those guys. All-star games are tough, they are hard because everybody is trying to do their own thing out there a little bit, but I thought our guys did a terrific job."
"It's always easier when guys decide earlier, but at the same time every guy is different. Every young guy has a different timetable."
"Recruiting for each player, you've got to be patient."
"First of all this next week or so we want our guys to take a week off and get out of the gym."
"We'll have a mini-camp here before school is out."
"We have a trip planned to Spain this summer for these guys. We'll have 10 practices in August which is great for our guys, and we'll play some great competition."
"We talked, and my message to [C.J. Leslie] is he needs to do whatever is best for him and whatever he wants to do. Everybody is different there. Some guys have a desire to be a higher pick and some guys are okay being lower picks. That's something his family has to decide."
"I think he had a great year and I'm appreciative of the guy, and I think he can get a lot better. I think Calvin has a lot of room to grow and improve, and we're excited about that, but whatever he decides to do we're going to support him 100%."
"It's not a time for me or anybody to be selfish. This is about him and what's best for him for the rest of his life."
"It's a tough call for him. He's torn a little bit, and he needs to sit down with his family and they can work it out."
"It's easy to have a perspective until it gets personal."
"It's hard to always say that is what the rule should be... there isn't an easy answer for it."
"You've got a lot of kids that think they are one-and-done but they really aren't."
"The lure of going to the NBA, and everybody wants to be there. Everybody on every roster in Division-I basketball thinks they are going there. It's unbelievable."
"I'm taking my boys down [to the Final Four]."
"Our goal is to win a national championship, not just get to the Final Four. I want to win one. That's why we coach."
"You enter a contest to come in first place. You don't enter it to come in fourth, or 9th, or 18th. That's our goal, and I understand that is a tall order. I understand all of that, but hopefully one day we can have an opportunity to get there."
"[Kentucky] is the best team, but I'll say this, their game with Louisville will be interesting."
