Mr. Automatic, Scott Wood, iced the game against Boston College with four more free throws late in the contest.
Make that 53-for-53 for the year and 63 in a row dating back to last season.
"If I miss one I miss one. I’m bound to miss one eventually," Wood said after the game. "That’s the way I’m pretty much looking at it."
Asked if he’s ever had a longer streak, he said, “Not in games. Just shooting around with gym teachers and stuff like that I’ve made I think it was like 200 and something.
“My dad always told me you shouldn’t miss free throws, they’re wide open, no one’s guarding you.”
Teammate C.J. Leslie just shakes his head.
“Scott’s a very good free throw shooter,” he said. “If you look at me (during Wood’s attempts), I don’t even try to go in for the rebound when he shoots that. I’ve got so much faith in him and that free throw shot, it’s probably ridiculous.
“I know he’s going to make it whenever he gets up there. He’s a very good free throw shooter.”
Talking about seeing Wood make shot after shot in practice, Leslie said, “He often … I mean, we shoot 20 in a row and it’s nothing new if he goes 20-for-20, so..."
