A 6-foot-4, 220-pound defensive end, Whitehead played his senior season at Martin Luther King High School for coach Mike Carson. He teamed up with fellow 2012 signee Jarnor Jones to help lead the Lions to a 12-2 record, including a 7-0 mark in conference.
Whitehead ended the year with 103 tackles and 16 sacks, as he led the state of Georgia in sacks and ranked 34th nationally. He had one game with four sacks and another with three. He earned all-state honors for his play.
Whitehead also played in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl in Phoenix. He is rated the No. 45 defensive end in the country by Scout.com and signed with the Wolfpack over offers from Clemson, Georgia, and North Carolina among others.
