"I went to NC State for a visit with my high school coach," said McClinton. "That went real well, and they offered me. I had a good time there talking with the new coaching staff. They started recruiting me when they got to NC State, but that was my first visit because I had never been there before."
What stood out the most to McClinton about the visit?
"The campus is real nice," he said. "It's cool there. The practice facility was great... they said it was a couple of years old but it looked new to me.
"Before I left the coaches told me that I was a high priority and they wanted to recruit me hard over the next couple of years. They didn't pressure me or anything, they just said they really want me in their program."
McClinton is one of the top in-state players in the 2013 class. Rated No. 39 overall in the country by Scout.com, the 6-foot-6 wing already holds offers from NC State, Georgia Tech, UCONN, and Alabama.
He is in the process of scheduling a few more unofficial visits.
"I'm planning take take a visit to UCONN on October 26th, and I hope I can get down to Alabama for a football game," he said. "I'm also supposed to visit Florida in the near future but that hasn't been set up yet."
McClinton maintains that he is completely wide open and is interested in a lot of schools at this point in the process.
"I think that I have a list, but I don't have a top five," he said. "I kind of like V. Tech because I have a good relationship with the coaches, and I like UCONN because it's a strong school.. I just don't know a lot about the program.
"I have a good relationship with the staff at Missouri, and the visit went to NC State went great. I like them a lot. I'm basically looking at everyone right now. I like a lot of schools."
