Ekanem Cuts List

Ekanem Cuts List

NC State has made the cut for defensive end Ken Ekanem, a four-star prospect out of Clifton (VA) Centreville High School.

Defensive end Ken Ekanem cut his list for the first time over the weekend and NC State is still in play.

The 6-3, 240-pound four-star prospect from Clifton (VA) Centreville hasn't mentioned NC State too much in the past and there's a good reason for that.

"NC State is my most recent offer," Ekanem told Pack Pride over the weekend. "That's one of the main reasons I'm really starting to look at them."

Actually, Ekanem has been on the Pack's radar for much longer than the recent offer would indicate. However, it wasn't until NC State recently extended a scholarship offer that Ekanem began to look at the Wolfpack closer.

"I think I started talking to them a year ago," Ekanem recalled. "I would say it's been about that long. Then Coach (Keith) Willis and I just had a little brief talk at the end of the school year.

"He tried to get me a scholarship a while back. He went back to the school and tried I guess, but I just now got it. That's my latest offer. I think that one came in a month and a half ago, probably."

Willis is one of the main reasons NC State is still a factor with Ekanem.

"I've talked to him a couple of times but not lately. I haven't visited down there yet," he noted. "Coach Willis has talked to me about their defense. He said he likes the fact that I would like to drop back (in coverage). He said he coaches that a lot in practice ... that and reading the quarterback. That was good because I can see myself being a drop-back defensive end at times."

NC State, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Pitt, Notre Dame, Michigan State and Oregon are the schools Ekanem is still considering.

He has already decided he will take official visits to Oregon and Notre Dame, while his three remaining visits are up in the air.
