The award is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football.
A Raleigh native, Gentry has served as the Wolfpack's starting fullback for the past two seasons. A year ago he pulled in 14 receptions, including two for scores. A powerful blocker, he has led State's special teams in tackles each of the past two seasons, earning the team award for special teams player of the year on each occasion.
The initial field of 50 will be trimmed to a small field of finalists that will be announced on December 9. The winner will be selected and announced following the bowl season.
