July 23 Update: Belgium made it all the way to the semifinals without suffering a defeat, but couldn't stay undefeated as they lost a heartbreaker 64-61 to Estonia.
Estonia hit a game-winning three-pointer in the final seconds to knock off Belgium, who will now face the Czech Republic tomorrow in the third place game.
Thomas De Thaey played 17 minutes, scoring seven points on 2-of-7 shooting from the field. He also grabbed four rebounds in the loss.
De Thaey is now averaging 9.9 points and 7.3 rebounds in 21 minutes of action for the tournament.
July 21 Update: Belgium survives and advances 75-69 in a tough matchup with the Czech Republic.
De Thaey came up big for his team, as he received his most action of the tournament, playing 27 minutes. He scored 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and knocked down 3-of-5 3-pointers. De Thaey also grabbed seven rebounds, which led Belgium.
He is now averaging 10.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, one assist and one block in 21.7 minutes per game.
Next up for Belgium is a semifinal game against either Bulgaria or Estonia. Belgium is 6-0 in the tournament.
July 20 Update: Belgium topped Portugal 74-59 and are now 5-0 in the tournament after the win in the opening Qualifying Round for Group F.
De Thaey played 17 minutes, scoring 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field. He hit 2-of-3 3-pointers and also both of his free throw attempts.
De Thaey also grabbed four rebounds and added an assist.
Belgium returns to the court on Thursday against the Czech Republic.
July 17 Update: Belgium defeated Iceland 80-69 today and improves to a 4-0 record in group play. De Thaey played 25 minutes and hit 3-of-11 field goals while scoring eight points. He also grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds and added an assist and a steal.
He is now averaging 7.5 points, 9 rebounds, one assist and one block in 21.5 minutes per game.
Belgium will be the No. 1 seed from Group D when the playoffs begin on July 20th.
