Pack Leads for Amerson

NC State leads for Winter Park (FL) wide receiver Xavier Amerson but will there be room in the class of 2012? Pack Pride has the latest on his recruitment.

One school is standing out for Xavier Amerson.

That said, it's not entirely clear whether that school has room to add him in this recruiting class, even though they offered earlier in the process.

The 6-3, 194-pound receiver from Winter Park, Florida has received offers from NC State, Virginia, Washington State, Memphis and a host of other smaller schools. For now, one school sticks out above the others.

"Right now NC State's number one on my list," Amerson said. "They've probably been number one for a few weeks now.

"I like the coaches and I really like the conference. I have a family member over there -- David Amerson, he plays cornerback for them."

Amerson has never visited NC State but he's hoping to change that.

"I'm actually scheduling something with Coach Reed when they get off vacation. It will probably be sometime later this month in July, either the 20th or 25th, something like that," he said.

Amerson said NC State has been recruiting him since the end of the school year. However, with recent commitments, it's not clear whether the Pack has room for Amerson at this point.

"Coach Reed told me recently they just got two receivers so right now they're kinda waiting to see what they're going to do," he said. "They're going to have a recruiting meeting. I think they would have to make room for me, I'm not sure."

Amerson said he doesn't have a timetable for when he wants to make his decision and acknowledged that timing is especially important, considering NC State's scholarship situation at his position.

"I'm also high on Middle Tennessee," he noted. "They've been contacting me for a long time. I know they're rebuilding but I know what they can do.

"One school that's recruiting me but hasn't offered is USF. I really like them too. My friend is getting interest from them so I want to hear more from them."

Amerson tallied nearly 800 receiving yards and eight touchdowns as a junior.
