O'Brien: OL Continues to Mature

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State head coach Tom O'Brien met with the media following Tuesday's practice to discuss the upcoming game against Florida State.

Josh Czajkowski said he's a bit superstitious but also said he tries to stay level-headed and consistent. What do you think about that?
I wouldn't know that. A lot of players have superstitions and a lot of guys do different things, pregame routines that they follow regardless of what time, where they are and what they're doing.

The key to the whole thing, especially for a kicker, is you have to have amnesia because sometimes you're not going to have success but you can't let it bother the next kick. You've got to go out and do it so the best attribute to have is to be level-headed and attack each kick like it's a whole new problem and a whole new opportunity to make a play.

He's had some bad situations come up but then he's come back and performed from that point on.

With R.J. Mattes back in the offensive line rotation, do you feel a little bit better about your group up front?
It's as constant as we're going to be right now. We've still got a long way to go because there are still a lot of young kids up front, with the exception of Vermiglio. But as long as they hang in there and keep working, they are going to physically mature as we go on and get bigger and stronger, which is what you have to be.

Talk about Gary Grant's progression at corner. Is he a player who could start before the end of the year?
I don't know if he's working his way into starting sometime soon but he's worked hard just like a lot of those kids. A lot of people are competing to try and get on the field and get playing time and he's one of them.

Coming in he was a man-to-man, in your face cover corner and the zone concept is something he's still trying to work his way through right now.

Talk about Coach Bible's health and his progression. From where he was last year until now, is that a miracle?
You could classify it as a miracle, the doctors would have a better idea how to classify that than I would but it's pretty remarkable to be in that position the way he was in the month of December last year. Going through everything he's gone through and still being able to do it.

Why does Florida State get so many sacks?
Well first they have great athletes. They've always had good guys who can rush off the edges, their ends get up the field. They are very good using their hands and making moves and then they are coming at you a little bit more with some pressure schemes.
